What's in our Chicken?

Do you really use 100% Chicken Breast in your products?

Our Chicken is all made with 100% chicken breast, apart from our Chicken Shop range - where we also sell delicious Chicken Wings! That's the difference with Birds Eye, you get our finest chicken, tasty and tender… Birds Eye Chicken for dinner.

Why does the pack say made with 100% chicken, but on the ingredients say less than 100%

We only ever use 100% chicken breast in all of our products (except for our Chicken Shop Chicken Wings). The % chicken stated in the ingredients list is the proportion of chicken in the complete product. The rest is the other ingredients such as the breadcrumbs and fillings which may our chicken products so tasty.

Are they any artificial colourings, flavours or preservatives in Birds Eye Chicken?

There are no artificial colour or flavours in any of our chicken products and because they are frozen we do not need to add any preservatives. The only preservatives are those associated with traditional ingredients such as the cured ham in Inspirations Chicken with a Creamy Cheese & Ham Sauce.

Is Birds Eye Chicken Full of Hidden Sugars or Salt?

No! Rest assured that our Birds Eye chicken products do not contain hidden sugars or salt. You can check the sugar and salt content for yourself, as we state them accurately in our clear nutrition labelling on all of our product packs.

Traceability and Welfare

At Birds Eye, the welfare, security and sustainability of the meat we source is extremely important to us. For this reason, our poultry, eggs and beef sourcing policy surpasses national and EU regulatory standards.

We are able to trace the meat we source, right back to its origins.

Our chickens are all barn-reared and we use quality vegetable-based feed. The use of fish in feed (such as fish oil and fish meal) is permitted as long as it’s from a sustainable source (as identified by the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries).

We strictly prohibit the use of antibiotics to promote growth. The use of antibiotics is only allowed when necessary and we commit to not using critically important antibiotics.

All animals used for meat production are humanely stunned prior to slaughter, to minimise stress.

We have signed the European Chicken Commitment and will work with our suppliers to continue to improve the welfare of the chickens we use and meet the requirements of the commitment by 2026 across our entire portfolio.
